Our second graders have been working to identify various shapes within our everyday lives. For example we identified circles in our school clocks and rectangles in our art room tables. The shape we were focusing on this particular lesson was circles. We learned about contour line circles, open circles, closed circles, circles big and small. The students even identified the different types of circles we saw in various circle paintings. Students were then able to create their own circle paintings.

Each table started out with one color and differnt size paintbrushes. After 3 to 5 minutes the colors were rotated and the students began painting a different set of circles. |
|
On day two of this lesson, we talked about differnt types of lines and the patterns we could make with them.
Using oil pastels students filled in the white spaces of paper with different patterns and shapes. |

The students did such a great job, they created so many different patterns and had such a great day in art! |
